Born into a military family then stationed in Japan, John has been “on the move” for most of his life. As a military “brat,” he also lived on a remote Pacific island and in the southern United States, where he graduated in 1978 from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, with a degree in Psychology.
Immediately commissioned a lieutenant in the US Army, he served in a variety of command and staff positions for over 10 years, in the US and abroad, before leaving the service in 1989. It was while stationed in West Germany that photography became a passion, which led to several award-winning images in the annual US Army-Europe Photography Competition.
John’s professional photography career started at the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Afterwards, he assisted a wide variety of well-known advertising, corporate, and editorial photographers, in order to gain practical experience in the art and business of commercial photography. Established in the Atlanta area since 1992, he enjoys creating location and studio images for commercial clients across the nation.
John is a past member of the ASMP National Board. In his free time he enjoys golf, or fly fishing, and is currently working towards a pilot’s license.
John lives in the Atlanta suburb of Tucker, with his wife, Marietta.
